JOHN (JACK) GILLIS SENTENCED IN BLYTH FOR REPEATED RAPE OF SEVEN-YEAR-OLD GIRL

In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of Blyth, Northumberland, John (Jack) Gillis, an 81-year-old pensioner, has been sentenced to 23 years in prison after being convicted of multiple counts of child sexual abuse. Gillis, who resided on Plessey Road in Blyth, was found guilty in May after a thorough trial that uncovered the extent of his heinous crimes. The charges included six counts of rape, three of which involved the victim when she was under 13 years old, as well as two counts of indecent assault. The severity of the offenses and the cruelty involved in the abuse were underscored during the sentencing at Newcastle Crown Court.

Judge Tim Gittins delivered a stern verdict, condemning Gillis for his vile actions. He stated, "You vilely abused her, raping her repeatedly despite the obvious distress and pain you knew you were causing her." Instead, he continued to deny responsibility, even during cross-examination, claiming that the girl was coming onto him. The judge condemned his attitude, stating, "There has been no shame from you, no contrition."

The victim, now an adult, spoke out about the lasting trauma inflicted by Gillis. She described him as a predator who was like a beast on the prowl, with her as his prey. She expressed her ongoing struggles, revealing that she has attempted suicide multiple times due to the shame and pain caused by his actions.
