JOHN HOLLIDAY, DERBY SEX OFFENDER AND CHILD ABDUCTOR, JAILED AGAIN FOR DECEIT AND BREACHES

In a case that underscores the ongoing concerns surrounding sexual offenders and their compliance with legal restrictions, John Holliday, a 50-year-old man from Derby, has been sentenced to prison once more following a series of breaches related to his past convictions and current conduct.

Holliday’s criminal history is both extensive and disturbing. He was originally convicted in 1993 for the heinous crime of raping a 77-year-old woman, a conviction that resulted in a ten-year prison sentence. His criminal activities did not end there; in 2004, after his release, he committed a further grave offense by abducting and sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl in Normanton. The young girl was injured while playing outside, and Holliday lured her into a flat he was decorating on Upper Dale Road. There, he sexually touched her after pulling down her trousers and underwear, an act that led to his re-sentencing to another ten years in prison at Derby Crown Court in 2005.

Due to the severity of his crimes, Holliday was placed under a sexual harm prevention order, which mandated that he must inform police if he entered into any romantic or sexual relationship. This legal requirement is designed to monitor and prevent further offending by individuals with a history of sexual crimes. However, in July of this year, Holliday violated this order by engaging in a new relationship and falsely claiming to his partner that his previous incarceration was for causing grievous bodily harm, not for sexual offenses. He also lied to police officers on two consecutive days, denying the existence of his relationship and concealing his true criminal background.

According to the court proceedings, Holliday’s deception was deliberate, aimed at misleading both his new partner and law enforcement authorities. The police were alerted to his relationship by a third party, prompting an investigation. When questioned, Holliday falsely stated that he was not involved in any relationship, despite the fact that he was actively engaged in one and had admitted to being on licence.

Judge Peter Cooke, presiding over the case at Derby Crown Court, expressed his disapproval of Holliday’s actions. He sentenced him to 32 months in prison, emphasizing the importance of upholding the law and the need to prevent further breaches. The judge remarked, “In my view it would be a nonsense if I did not send you back to prison for these repeated breaches of this order. There was also an element of subterfuge designed to mislead your new partner about your past offending.”

Holliday’s case is further complicated by his prior breach of the sexual harm prevention order last year, which resulted in his recall to prison. Despite his history and the court’s warnings, he continued to deceive authorities and his partner, demonstrating a blatant disregard for the legal restrictions placed upon him. His actions have once again brought to light the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement and the justice system in managing individuals with such serious criminal backgrounds, especially when they attempt to conceal their pasts and engage in new relationships under false pretenses.
