JOHN FURNESS AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ABUSE IN DERBY AND HINCKLEY

In September 2018, John Furness, a man from Derby, completed a sentence of two years and 10 months in prison.

He was subsequently released on licence from HMP Whatton on September 21, 2018.

Following his release, Furness secured employment with a company called M2K Services, based in Hinckley, Leicestershire.

This firm specializes in maintenance and construction work, particularly in shop fitting and major building projects.

Back in November 2015, Furness, aged 34 at the time and a self-employed joiner residing in Chaddesden, was convicted of reprehensible crimes involving two young girls.

He appeared at Derby Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to six counts of sexual offences out of a total of ten allegations made against him.

These included engaging in sexual activity with a girl under the age of 16 on three separate occasions, each carrying a sentence of 68 months imprisonment.

Additionally, he was found guilty of having sexual activity with a girl under the age of 13 on two separate counts, which resulted in sentences of 14 months each.

The court was informed that Furness had committed these acts over a span of several years, repeatedly abusing both young girls.

It was revealed that he employed manipulative tactics to silence his victims, ensuring their compliance to hide his illegal activities.

Despite the severity of his crimes, only one of the girls disclosed her abuse to a family member, who then contacted the police, leading to Furness’s arrest and subsequent prosecution.

Although the cumulative sentences for these offences added up to 21 and a half years, they were ordered to run concurrently.

As a result, the total prison time assigned to Furness was effectively five and a half years.

The court instructed that Furness must serve at least half of this sentence before being considered for release on parole.

Furthermore, the judge made it clear that Furness would be placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

A sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) was also imposed against him, meant to remain in effect until further notice, in order to protect the community from potential future harm.

This case highlights the serious and ongoing concerns regarding sexual abuse and the importance of vigilant law enforcement and community awareness in Derby, Hinckley, and beyond.
