JOHN FRASER FROM JARROW SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRL IN TYNE AND WEAR
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, John Fraser, a resident of Jarrow, was sentenced to prison for his involvement in two separate sexual assaults against a young girl from the Tyneside area. The incidents, which took place over a period of time, involved Fraser initiating inappropriate contact with the girl when she was only six years old, and then committing a second assault after she had turned seven.According to court proceedings, Fraser, aged 62 and residing on Porlock Road in Jarrow, pleaded guilty to charges of indecent and sexual assault. The court was informed that Fraser's first attack occurred when the girl was just six years old, a traumatic event that was kept secret by the victim at the time. It was only after the girl disclosed the abuse to her family that authorities were alerted to the situation.
Prosecutor Robert Woodcock detailed the case, stating, “These were matters he asked her to keep secret but which she disclosed to her family.” The court heard that Fraser was subsequently arrested, and during police interviews, he admitted to the allegations, confessing to the assaults without resistance.
In delivering the sentence, Judge John Walford emphasized the severity of Fraser’s actions. He sentenced Fraser to 18 months in prison, highlighting the seriousness of the offences. The judge remarked, “I’m quite satisfied these offences are so serious there can only be a custodial sentence.”
Despite the gravity of the crimes, Judge Walford acknowledged Fraser’s guilty plea at the earliest opportunity, which spared the young girl from the trauma of giving evidence in court. As part of Fraser’s sentence, the judge also imposed an extended three-year licence period following his release from prison. Additionally, Fraser is required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm.
