An elderly man who raped a young child was sentenced to 13-and-a-half years in prison on August 3.
The series of crimes occurred between June 2008 and June 2010 but were only reported to Kent Police in the previous year.
John Eyre, who resides on North Road in Goudhurst, was detained on February 27, 2017, and later charged with multiple offenses.
He appeared at Maidstone Crown Court, where he denied charges of rape, inciting or causing a child to engage in sexual activity, and sexual assault against a minor.
However, the jury unanimously found him guilty after deliberation, resulting in a lengthy prison term.
In addition to his imprisonment, Eyre has been placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely, and a court order prohibits him from working with children in the future.
