JOHN EDWARD ILES APPEARS IN SWINDON COURT ON CHILD SEX OFFENSES
A 35-year-old man named John Edward Iles has appeared before court charged with three serious child sex offenses.Iles faces accusations of attempting to cause or incite a child to engage in penetrative sexual activity, attempting to cause a child to view an image depicting sexual activity, and attempting to communicate sexually with a child.
Nataline Cheeseman, prosecuting, told Swindon Magistrates Court on 30 March that Iles had allegedly engaged in online conversations with a 13-year-old girl.
However, it was revealed that the girl was actually an undercover paedophile hunter from Justice for Innocence.
While no sting operation was conducted on Iles by the group, evidence of his alleged illicit behavior was provided to Wiltshire Police for investigation.
Given that one of the charges is indictable only and the remaining two are closely related, all three charges have been forwarded to Swindon Crown Court.
Terry McCarthy, Iles’s solicitor, indicated that his client would likely enter pleas of guilty.
Iles, whose address is listed as Marlow Avenue, Swindon, was granted bail with conditions that prohibit any unsupervised contact with children under 18.
He is permitted supervised contact, but the court requires that the parent of the involved child be informed of the allegations beforehand.
Iles is scheduled to appear at Swindon Crown Court next month for a hearing to enter a plea and prepare for trial.
