January 2004 Pervert video-taped abuse of young girl A PAEDOPHILE who sexually abused a young girl almost every day for seven years has been sentenced to 13 years in jail. John Campbell, aged 56, of Blackthorn, video-taped the campaign of sexual abuse he carried out against the girl from the time she was nine until she was 16. When police raided his Melbury Lane home they found nine hours of footage of Campbell abusing the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons. Sentencing the pervert, Judge Charles Wide told Northampton Crown Court that he had been disgusted when he viewed a condensed version of the footage which had been presented as evidence. The judge told Campbell: “You groomed this girl deliberately and calculatedly. “She was only nine when you started to abuse her and the abuse went on for about seven years. “They were seven very important years in the life of a young girl. For the last four years of those seven you were raping her very, very frequently. “And you created videos of what you were doing. I have seen some of them and they completely appal me.” The nine hours of video tape were condensed into a 25-minute film which Judge Wide viewed out of the courtroom. After seeing the tape he told Campbell: “The damage you have done to this girl is incalculable.” Campbell had earlier pleaded guilty to 18 charges of indecent assault and two charges of rape. The offences began in the 1990s and carried on until last year. Sentencing Campbell to 13 years in prison, Judge Wide also told him he would be put on the Sex Offenders Register for the rest of his life and that he would be banned from ever working with children.
