JOHN BURNSIDE'S BRUTAL CRIME IN PADIHAM AND CLITHEROE REVEALED

John Burnside, a man with a troubling history of violence, was involved in a disturbing incident that took place in the town of Padiham, Lancashire, and the nearby area of Clitheroe. Born on January 12, 1994, in Clitheroe, Burnside has been known to authorities for multiple convictions related to violence against people. As of March 2021, he resided on Church Street, Padiham, with the postcode BB12 8JH.

His latest misconduct came to light when he was seen engaging in a series of violent and threatening acts in a public setting. Witnesses reported that Burnside entered the Rose and Crown pub in Clitheroe at approximately 10:15 pm. The pub's barman described him as appearing “drunk and angry,” which set the tone for the troubling events that followed.

According to court testimonies, Burnside's behavior quickly escalated. Without warning, he picked up his pet whippet, lifted the small dog to head height, and then forcefully threw her onto the floor. Witnesses observed that the dog did not cry out but appeared visibly terrified. Burnside then approached the animal and, with both hands, began to squeeze her neck, followed by hitting her three or four times. This act of cruelty was carried out in front of other patrons, who were understandably shocked and distressed by the scene.

After the assault on his pet, Burnside did not stop his aggressive conduct. He moved across the pub and approached a group of males. In a display of further threatening behavior, he swung a stool at them, punched one individual, and grabbed another by the throat. Throughout these episodes, Burnside was muttering to himself and ignored efforts by others to calm him down, indicating a state of agitation and possible intoxication.

Prosecutor Catherine Allan detailed the severity of Burnside's actions, emphasizing that he was under the influence of alcohol during the incident. She requested that the court impose a disqualification order preventing Burnside from keeping any animals and an exclusion order barring him from public houses in the Clitheroe area. Allan also pointed out that Burnside's behavior on this occasion breached a suspended prison sentence previously imposed for assaults on two individuals at a Clitheroe social club.

Burnside pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including causing unnecessary suffering to a dog, being drunk and disorderly at the Rose and Crown, and using threatening behavior. He also admitted to being drunk and disorderly on a separate occasion. The court was informed that sentencing had been postponed for administrative reasons, and no further update was available at the time.

Defense lawyer Geoffrey Ireland explained that his client could not recall the events clearly, citing the amount of alcohol consumed and medication for mental health issues. He acknowledged Burnside's misconduct towards the dog, which his parents have since given to someone else for care.

Overall, the case highlights a pattern of violent and reckless behavior by John Burnside, raising concerns about his conduct in public and his treatment of animals. The court's final decision on sentencing remains pending, but the incident has drawn significant attention to issues of animal cruelty and public safety in the Lancashire region.
