JOHN BORRES CAUGHT IN BARNSEY TRYING TO MEET 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL FOR SEX
In June 2020, a disturbing case unfolded involving John Borres, a resident of Weeland Road, Eggborough, Selby, who was caught attempting to engage in sexual activities with a minor in Barnsley. The incident was brought to light through the efforts of the Templar Knights, a paedophile hunting organization that specializes in identifying and confronting online sexual predators. The group had set up an online decoy, a girl named 'Millie,' aged 14, to lure potential offenders. Between October 24 and 29, 2018, Borres made contact with this decoy, initiating a series of messages that quickly turned sexual in nature.According to court proceedings, prosecutor Ian Goldsack detailed how Borres’s communications with the decoy became increasingly explicit. He sent her indecent images of himself and repeatedly asked for sexual acts. Despite being informed of her age, Borres continued to pursue the conversation, showing no intention of stopping. He explicitly asked her to perform a sexual act and attempted to arrange a meeting in public toilets in Barnsley, indicating a clear intent to engage in sexual activity with a minor.
Further, Borres inquired whether she would dress as a boy and offered to wear a condom during their supposed encounter. He also requested photographs of her in a school uniform and asked for naked pictures. During the investigation, Borres admitted to having a sexual interest in girls aged 13 and 14, revealing his troubling preferences. The court heard that although Borres has no previous convictions, there are warnings on his record dating back to 2005.
At Sheffield Crown Court, Borres, aged 30, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including attempting to arrange a child sexual offence, attempting to incite a child to engage in penetrative sexual activity, and attempting to engage in sexual communications with a minor. His actions culminated in a court hearing where Judge Michael Slater acknowledged Borres’s vulnerabilities, noting he is a person with significant personal problems. The judge considered a two-year prison sentence appropriate but ultimately decided to suspend the sentence for two years, believing that Borres would benefit from closer supervision outside of prison.
As part of his sentence, Borres is required to complete 30 days of rehabilitation programs. Additionally, a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order was imposed to restrict his activities and monitor his behavior. The judge warned Borres that any violation of the order could result in immediate imprisonment, emphasizing the seriousness of his offenses and the potential consequences if he reoffends.
