June 2008 Sexual offences order for rapist ex-policeman A RAPIST ex-policeman will be strictly monitored over the next 10 years after it was ruled he still poses a risk to young women. Former Middlesbrough PC and ex professional footballer John Blott, who was jailed a decade ago for raping two teenage girls, broke the terms of his licence when he failed to inform the probation service about his relationship with a Japanese student Blott, a former manchester city goalkeeper who now plans to marry, was said to have “showed no insight” into the seriousness of his behaviour and as a result was made the subject of a sexual offences prevention order. The 10-year court order bans Blott, 43, from being alone in private with any female who has not been made aware of his rape convictions. It also prevents the keep fit fanatic from coaching any females unless they too are aware of his history. Cleveland Police only became aware about Blott’s relationship when Miss Sakamoto’s concerned flatmates searched for his name on the internet. But even after being told by police about his shocking past, Miss Sakamoto told Teesside Magistrates Court she was looking forward to spending the rest of her life with him and would never have expected him to tell her everything about his past. “He’s a great guy and he’s a nice friend,” she said. “He’s like a Japanese guy. He’s polite and his behaviour is that of a gentleman.” District Judge Roger Elsey said: “What you have learned about John has not made a difference to what you think about him?”  Representing Blott, Harvey Murray, said: “Time has now told because this is an ongoing relationship. These two parties actually love each other.” Two months after Blott’s release from prison in December 2004, he was banned from a gym in Newcastle following complaints from two female gym members who said he made them feel uncomfortable. A police officer giving evidence in the two-day hearing also said Blott had made her feel uncomfortable when she was investigating the theft of his bicycle in October 2006. District Judge Roger Elsey said: “The respondent clearly demonstrated when giving evidence that he had no real insight into the necessity of the conditions on his licence.” A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “We applied for a sexual offences protection order in order to manage this individually more closely. The conditions of the order will enable this to be achieved and this is in addition to him being on the sex offenders’ register for life.” The order against Blott, who currently lives at a Newcastle bail hostel, will expire on July 31, 2018. His offences His first victim was a 16-year-old college student he met in August 1993. He arranged a date and on the night told her he needed to drive to his home to pick something up. Once inside he forced her into the bedroom, pulled her to the floor and raped her. He then stood her up and raped her a second time. In November 1994, Blott indecently assaulted an Inland Revenue worker, aged 22, he chatted up while on duty outside Middlesbrough town hall. He arranged to take her for a drink, but drove her to his home and showed her photographs of him with topless women. He pulled her to the floor, fondled her breasts, and told her three times: “You know I’m going to rape you tonight.” When she continued to resist his advances Blott masturbated in front of her and then watched football on television. The second rape took place in March 1995, when Blott attacked an 18-year- old garage receptionist twice in his living room, leaving her “stunned, drained and utterly disgusted”. Blott of New Marske, near Redcar, Cleveland, boasted in interviews with police that he was a good looking man who had picked up hundreds of women during his 10 years with the Cleveland force. “In uniform they seem to throw themselves at me. I could not count the number of girls I have gone out with. I must have slept with at least 300, so I’m hardly sex-starved,” he said.
