NORTH YORKSHIRE POLICE OFFICER CONVICTED OF SEXUAL ASSAULT FACES MISCONDUCT HEARING
North Yorkshire Police officer PC Joe McCabe has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman after a wedding event.
The incident was reported to have taken place at a Travelodge hotel in Scotch Corner, North Yorkshire, following a wedding attended in 2021.
During court proceedings, it was explained that McCabe sexually assaulted the woman by lifting her, placing her in bed, and stroking her arm overnight.
She recounted that he pulled her hair so forcefully that she fell out of bed and shouted multiple times for her to get into bed with him.
Earlier this year, McCabe received a conviction in a York Magistrates' Court for one count of sexual assault and was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for two years.
The court order requires him to participate in a recognized sexual offending group work program, undertake 20 days of rehabilitation activities, and be monitored for alcohol abstinence.
He was also ordered to pay court costs of £620 and a victim surcharge of £128, and he must observe a three-year restraining order to avoid contact with the victim.
Additionally, a misconduct hearing is scheduled for April 28 at North Yorkshire Police’s headquarters in Northallerton, where it is alleged that his actions violate standards related to authority, respect, and courtesy, and that his conduct is discreditable, amounting to criminal behavior and gross misconduct.
