JOANNE ROBERTS AND KARL TORGERSEN SENTENCED IN LIVERPOOL CHILD ABUSE CASE
A dangerous child abuser involved in filming young girls in sexual poses to share with online pedophile networks was linked to a European paedophile ring uncovered by German police, with evidence tracing back to Liverpool.
Karl Torgersen, aged 41, was arrested last September at his residence on Churchway Road, Speke, alongside his partner Joanne Roberts, 38.
During the investigation, authorities seized Torgersen’s computer, discovering photos of him abusing young girls stored on the hard drive.
Torgersen admitted to over 60 charges, including sexual assault, photographing a child for sexual purposes, and distributing indecent images of minors.
Judge Robert Trevor-Jones described Torgersen as motivated to satisfy his "perverted ends," dismissing his claim that he was "objectively" investigating online paedophilia—an excuse he offered purportedly due to his own past abuse—calling it "classic denial." Torgersen was sentenced to eight years and eight months in prison, with a minimum of two-thirds to be served, and was designated as a dangerous offender.
Additionally, he received an extended licence period of 14 years.
Joanne Roberts pleaded guilty to lesser sexual assault charges and offenses related to indecent images.
She received a sentence of two years and seven months in prison.
The judge stated: "You were present and played your part."
