JIMMY JONES FROM NOTTINGHAM SENTENCED FOR ONLINE SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING FAKE FACEBOOK PROFILES

In a significant case highlighting the dangers of online grooming, Jimmy Jones, a resident of Nottingham, was sentenced to a total of 28 months in prison after being convicted of attempting to incite two young girls to engage in sexual activities through online communications.

The incident came to light when paedophile hunters, operating under the guise of two fictitious children on Facebook, successfully identified and exposed Jones.

These vigilantes, part of a group known as Guardians of the North, created fake profiles to lure online predators and gather evidence against them.

Jones, who led what was described as an 'almost digital existence,' responded to friend requests from these fake profiles and engaged in sexually suggestive conversations.

According to the court proceedings, Jones specifically targeted an 11-year-old girl, telling her she was 'cute and sexy,' and expressed a desire for them to be boyfriend and girlfriend, claiming he loved her.

In a similar vein, he communicated with what he believed to be a 13-year-old girl, calling her 'beautiful and sexy,' and expressing eagerness to meet her in person.

He also stated that he wanted to marry her and mentioned plans to save money and visit her, although he acknowledged this would take some months.

The police were alerted to Jones's activities after the online vigilante group provided evidence, including screenshots of conversations between Jones and the fake profiles.

The group had tracked down Jones's address on Ryecroft Street, Stapleford, Nottingham, and called police to the scene.

On Sunday, November 20, last year, officers arrived at his residence and made the arrest.

During the investigation, the police learned that Jones had been involved in an online grooming operation.

The man involved in setting up the fake profiles explained that he and his colleagues had monitored Jones's interactions and gathered sufficient evidence to proceed with the arrest.

The police confirmed that Jones had attempted to incite sexual activity with the girls, leading to his charges.

Jones pleaded guilty to three charges: attempting to incite a girl to engage in sexual activity.

The court heard that he received a sentence of two years concurrently for his activities involving the fake 11-year-old girl, and an additional four months consecutively for his interactions with the girl he believed to be 13.

Judge Rosalind Coe QC, presiding over the case, sentenced Jones to serve his time in prison and ordered him to sign the sex offenders' register for ten years.

Additionally, she imposed a sexual harm prevention order to be in effect upon his release.

The judge emphasized that although there was 'no actual victim' in this case, Jones was unaware of this fact, and she warned that had there been a real victim, the harm caused would have been genuine and serious.

This case underscores the ongoing threat posed by online predators and the importance of vigilant online safety measures, especially for minors.

The authorities continue to work closely with groups like Guardians of the North to combat online grooming and protect vulnerable children from exploitation.
