JAMAICAN-BORN RAPIST JAILED FOR ASSAULT ON VULNERABLE WOMAN IN BIRKENHEAD
A CONVICTED rapist who assaulted a vulnerable woman in Birkenhead nine days after being freed on licence has been jailed for 18 years.Jermaine Hussie, described by a judge as “a danger to women”, was sentenced to 14 years behind bars with an extended licence of four years. He was previously sentenced in July 2014 to six years for rape and sexual assault on another woman and was released on March 20 last year.Eight days after his release, Hussie, calling himself JJ, approached a young mother at Birkenhead bus station, asking personal questions and persuading her to give her phone number. The following evening, he approached another woman with learning difficulties at the same bus station. After walking around and talking, they ended up in the car park of the Wirral Christian Centre near Balls Road in Birkenhead. They engaged in consensual kissing, but Hussie then raped her twice despite her objections.
The woman later reported the assault to her support worker, and the police were alerted.
Police circulated details of Hussie on social media, leading the victim to contact authorities for help in identifying him.At the time, Hussie was living in a bail hostel in Great Howard Street, Liverpool, and staff there assisted police with information about him.
He was arrested on May 19.Hussie denied the rape, claiming the women had wanted sex and had initiated it, but was convicted of two rapes after a trial.
The judge noted he was aware the woman was vulnerable, describing her as childlike and appearing younger than her age.
The judge also stated Hussie had shown no remorse and believed he had been set up by the victims, which the court noted as an attitude that makes him a danger to women. His prior record, attitude, and recent offences led to the 18-year sentence.
The court also awarded £500 from public funds to the woman whose help led to Hussie’s identification, praising her public-spirited action.
