JEREMY FARROW OF BRISTOL SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AGAINST YOUNG BOY IN THORNABURY
A young boy, who was molested by Jeremy Farrow in Thornbury, found the strength and maturity to report his abuser, leading to Farrow’s imprisonment, Bristol Crown Court heard. The boy was approximately 10 or 11 years old when the abuse occurred.
After Farrow advised him to remain silent, the child said nothing at the time but later, years afterward, emailed his mother detailing the abuse.
This prompted police action, resulting in Farrow’s arrest.
Farrow, 53, of Castle Court, pleaded guilty to charges including causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, engaging in sexual activity in front of a child under 16, and breaching a Sexual Offence Prevention Order (SOPO).
The Recorder of Bristol, His Honour Judge Peter Blair QC, sentenced him to seven-and-a-half years in prison.
Judge Blair remarked: "You told him to keep quiet and that’s what he did until it all became too much.
You have caused severe, psychological harm to that young man." Farrow was also prohibited from working with children and was ordered to comply with sex offender notification requirements indefinitely.
Prosecutor James Tucker, presenting via video link, described how the boy’s demeanor changed from being "bright and diligent" to becoming a cannabis smoker with declining academic performance.
The court revealed that the boy eventually emailed his mother to describe the abuse he endured, which included Farrow performing a sex act in front of him and encouraging him to perform a sex act on Farrow.
This abuse significantly impacted the boy’s ability to form relationships and led to inappropriate behaviour at school, the court heard.
Over time, the victim began to understand the extent of the trauma and stopped suppressing his memories.
Defence lawyer Tabitha Macfarlane stated Farrow faced his own challenges, including a severe brain injury.
She also mentioned that Farrow, who had repeatedly breached his SOPO, was seeking to turn over a new leaf during his time in jail and planned to undertake courses, including a sex offender treatment program.
