Jeffrey Gauge

Wisbech Sexual Abuser

April 2016 Cambridgeshire man jailed for child sex offences  A man has been jailed for 12 years for sex offences which took place in a Cambridgeshire village more than 20 years ago. Jeffrey Gauge, 58, of Beechwood Road in Wisbech, denied one count of attempted rape of a child under the age of 16 and indecent assault – but was found guilty by a trial jury. The offences took place between November 1992-1995. Gauge appeared at Cambridge Crown Court yesterday. During the trial, Duncan O’Donnell, prosecuting, said the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said Gauge was “physically violent”. In the early 2000s the woman confided to a family member that Gauge had sexually abused her and this had gone on for ‘quite a while’. None of this was reported to police until 2013, the court heard. Gauge was arrested on April 25, 2015 but denied the allegations. He said the woman was “a born liar” who was “not right in the head”. In January, a jury of seven men and five women took three and a half hours to deliver a unanimous verdict, finding the defendant guilty of all charges. Yesterday, Gauge was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the attempted rape. He was also handed two, four-year sentences for assaults on a woman. These sentences will run concurrently with each other, meaning Gauge will spend 12 years in prison. Upon his release, he will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order.
