SEX OFFENDER WHO CRASHED AFTER POLICE CHASE JAILED
A sex offender who drove into the path of oncoming traffic on the morning of his first court appearance has been jailed.
Luke Jarrett, from Wisbech, was driving on the A47 towards the town at about 09:00 BST on 22 September.
Cambridgeshire Police said concerns had been raised for his welfare and he was due to attend Cambridge Magistrates' Court.
The 26-year-old was jailed for three years and four months at Peterborough Crown Court on 5 November after pleading guilty to dangerous driving and of offences relating to illicit images of children.
Det Con Simon Law, who investigated, said: "Jarrett clearly did not want to face justice for these crimes, which may lie behind his reckless and dangerous driving that endangered innocent members of the public on the day of his first court appearance." Jarrett was spotted by officers driving a green Jeep Cherokee on the A-road from the direction of Thorney Toll.
Jarrett, who lived in Lords Lane in the town, had been charged after an investigation which began in July 2024 after he uploaded an indecent photograph of a child to the internet.
The force said his electronic devices were seized after he was arrested in September that year.
Police said they found 703 indecent images of children and 771 videos, 638 extreme pornographic images and 288 indecent photographs of a child that had been distributed.
He admitted several counts of distributing indecent photos of a child, making an indecent image of a child and of possessing an extreme pornographic image.
Jarrett was handed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register and banned from driving for five years and four months.
Det Con Law added: "Creating indecent images and then sharing them may not be a physical offence, but it still harms the child victims."
