July 2004 Mum’s new fears for daughter A mum claims justice has not been done after the man who indecently assaulted her daughter escaped a jail sentence. The Melksham mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, fears her 15-year-old daughter could now meet the man, who attacked her when she was aged between 11 and 13, in the street. At Swindon Crown Court on Wednesday Jeffrey Fuller, of Avonfield, Holt, was given a three-year community rehabilitation order and placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for five years. The 39-year-old had earlier admitted three counts of indecent assault on the girl between March 2000 and December 2002. The girl’s mother said: “He is a very clever man and has fooled absolutely everybody. I am angry because for what he did he should receive a custodial sentence. “My daughter has got to walk through Melksham and that guy could be hanging around. It feels like he’s got a slap on the wrist.” Giles Nelson, prosecuting, told the court Fuller played a game with the girl where he touched her breasts over her clothing. John Jones, defending, criticised the pre-sentence report, saying part of it was a “fantasy of what could happen in the worst possible situation.” He said: “These are three specimen counts of what I suggest is the mildest form of inappropriate touching. “Mr Fuller has a long-standing history of ME. He is a wreck physically and mentally.”
