JEFFREY DIXON FROM ULVERSTON ESCAPES JAIL AFTER SEXUAL ACTIVITY WITH 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL

In a case that has drawn significant attention in Ulverston and the surrounding areas, Jeffrey Dixon, a 24-year-old resident of Bigland Drive in Ulverston, was spared immediate imprisonment after admitting to engaging in sexual activity with a minor. The incident, which took place in August 2012, involved Dixon having sexual contact with a girl who was under the age of 16 at the time, specifically a 14-year-old girl whose identity cannot be disclosed due to legal restrictions.

According to court records, Dixon pleaded guilty at Preston Crown Court to a charge of sexual activity with a child on the 26th of August, 2012. The court was informed that Dixon had no previous convictions, and the case was adjourned to allow for a pre-sentence report to be prepared by the probation service. During the hearing, Judge Stuart Baker emphasized the seriousness of the offence, stating that any sexual activity involving a person under 16 is a grave matter that must be treated with the utmost severity. The judge also made it clear that all sentencing options, including imprisonment, remained on the table.

In the subsequent sentencing hearing, Jeffrey Dixon was represented by his legal counsel, who highlighted the character references he had received, describing them as some of the most impressive the court had seen. These references indicated that those who knew Dixon were supportive of him despite the allegations. However, the court was also presented with evidence that police had discovered numerous sexually explicit text messages on the victim’s phone, which further substantiated the allegations against him.

During the proceedings, the court was told that Dixon, a former sergeant in the Air Cadets, had engaged in inappropriate conduct with the girl, including kissing and touching her in a manner deemed unacceptable and illegal. The court heard that Dixon’s behavior was particularly troubling given his previous role of authority and trust within the community.

Judge Christopher Cornwall, presiding over the case, acknowledged Dixon’s remorse and the low risk of reoffending. Nonetheless, he pointed out that the ten-year age gap between Dixon and his young victim was an aggravating factor. The judge expressed concern over the potential for harm and the importance of protecting minors from such conduct.

As part of his sentence, Dixon received a 32-week prison term, suspended for two years, along with a two-year supervision order. Additionally, he was issued a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which prohibits him from having unsupervised contact with any child under 16 and from making contact with the victim for a period of five years. Furthermore, Dixon was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years and to pay £400 in prosecution costs.

In a related hearing in August 2012, Dixon had already pleaded guilty to the same offence, with the court noting that all sentencing options remained open. He was remanded on conditional bail until September 7, pending the preparation of the pre-sentence report. Judge Baker reiterated the gravity of the offence, emphasizing that any case involving sexual activity with a minor under 16 is treated with the utmost seriousness and that imprisonment remains a possibility depending on the final sentencing decision.
