FORMER POLICE OFFICER CONVICTED OF RAPING WOMEN
A former police officer named Jeffrey Davies, aged 45 from Aberdare, was convicted in Newport Crown Court of raping two women over 13 years ago. The offences took place between January 2002 and April 2003 while Davies was working as a family liaison officer with South Wales Police. The court found him guilty of two counts of rape. One of the victims was raped on the bonnet of his car on Bwlch mountain, and the other in her bedroom after Davies smoked cannabis with her brother. The allegations surfaced after reports of his involvement in other sexual offences. Davies was dismissed from the police force in 2013 after being jailed for sexually assaulting two women in 2010. The police force described his actions as an "appalling abuse of trust," and the Head of South Wales Police’s professional standards department expressed that the victims' courage in coming forward was commendable. The Independent Police Complaints Commission highlighted that Davies was hiding as a sex offender within the police service. He is scheduled for sentencing on July 15. The verdict aims to provide some closure for the victims and encourages other victims to come forward. South Wales Police emphasized their commitment to supporting victims and prosecuting offenders like Davies.
