BRISTOL MAN JEFF ROBINSON BACK IN COURT FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN BRISTOL

In September 2016, Jeff Robinson, a man with a troubling history linked to child exploitation, appeared once again before the courts in Bristol to face serious allegations related to the possession of indecent images of children.

Robinson, who has previously served time for similar offenses, was brought back into the courtroom to answer for his latest misconduct involving the distribution and possession of explicit material.

Robinson, aged 60 and residing on Park Road in Bristol, had earlier admitted to making indecent images of children.

The police investigation uncovered a disturbing collection of material, including a total of 1,616 still images and one video clip, all of which depicted child abuse at various levels of severity.

These findings were presented during the hearing, highlighting the extent of Robinson’s ongoing involvement in such illicit activities.

During the proceedings, Tabitha Macfarlane, representing Robinson, acknowledged his prior convictions and the fact that he was subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

She emphasized that Robinson was aware of the gravity of his actions and the increased severity of sentencing guidelines now in place.

The court was informed that Robinson had previously served a 15-month prison sentence after being convicted in 2010 for downloading child abuse images, a case that had stirred considerable controversy at the time.

In that earlier case, Robinson was also linked to online communications with a 12-year-old girl from Wolverhampton.

Although he made lewd suggestions and expressed a desire to marry her, the charges of sexual grooming were ultimately dropped because there was no evidence that Robinson had arranged to meet the girl in person.

The judge at that time, His Honour Judge Julian Lambert, criticized the legal loophole that allowed individuals like Robinson to avoid harsher penalties despite their predatory behavior.

Further investigations revealed that in April 2009, police from the internet child abuse team visited Robinson’s residence and seized two of his computers.

The devices contained 782 images, classified at the lowest level of indecency, along with three video clips considered to be at the most serious level of abuse.

Despite this, Robinson claimed that he was not sexually aroused by the images and that his engagement with the material was purely fantasy-driven.

In November 2009, following a complaint from the mother of the 12-year-old girl involved in the earlier case, police conducted a second search at Robinson’s home.

They discovered additional messages on his computers, including expressions of love and intentions to marry the girl, as well as bizarre comments like wanting to cover her in body paint.

More indecent images were found, totaling 401 at the lowest level and two at the most serious level of abuse.

Robinson’s defense team stated that he had been undergoing counseling for a month, which he found beneficial, and that he was in a stable relationship and cared for his elderly mother.

However, the judge, Judge Michael Longman, decided to bail Robinson until a sentencing hearing scheduled for October 21, pending a pre-sentence report.

The judge clarified that the report was intended to provide a comprehensive understanding of Robinson’s background and potential risk to the public, emphasizing that bail conditions did not predict the final outcome of the case.

Commenting on the case, Detective Constable Geoff Colvin of the Avon and Somerset Constabulary’s internet child abuse team expressed concern about Robinson’s potential threat to teenage girls, underscoring the ongoing danger posed by individuals involved in such criminal activities.

The case remains a stark reminder of the persistent issues surrounding online child exploitation and the importance of vigilant law enforcement efforts to combat these heinous crimes.
