JEAN FROM ASHFORD SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN MAIDSTONE COURT

In a case that has shocked the local community of Ashford, a man named Jean has been convicted and sentenced for the sexual abuse of a young girl who was only three years old at the time of the offences. The incident, which took place several years ago, has led to a significant legal response aimed at protecting the public and preventing further harm.

Jean, a 59-year-old man of French nationality, was brought before Maidstone Crown Court to face serious charges related to his misconduct. He pleaded guilty to four counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, a crime that has profound and lasting impacts on the victim and her family. The court heard that Jean’s criminal history includes prior offences in France, where he was cautioned in 1991 for exposing himself, and in 1998, when he was convicted of sexual assault involving a female in a Jacuzzi.

His defense lawyer, Leroy Redhead, attempted to provide some context, revealing that Jean’s wife was having an affair at the time when the latest offences came to light. The couple subsequently separated but were reportedly working towards reconciliation.

Judge Jeremy Carey, presiding over the case, acknowledged the severity of the crimes and the trauma inflicted upon the young victim. He emphasized that it did not require much imagination to understand the profound psychological impact such abuse could have on a child. The judge expressed concern about the potential for future harm if Jean’s depraved tendencies were not addressed through appropriate intervention.

In his sentencing remarks, Judge Carey highlighted that Jean had recognized the need for help with his sexual deviations, which was a positive step. However, given the serious nature of the offences and the risk posed to others, the court deemed it necessary to impose a substantial sentence. Jean was sentenced to four years in prison, with an extended period of 18 months on licence, ensuring ongoing supervision and support.

Furthermore, the court ordered Jean to be placed on the sex offenders’ register and prohibited him from working with children in any capacity. The judge also noted that Jean has received treatment for prostate cancer, which was taken into consideration during sentencing.
