JASON WOODHALL FROM BARNSLEY SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR CHILD RAPE IN SHEFFIELD

In a case that has spanned nearly two decades, Jason Woodhall, a resident of Barnsley, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 12 years after being convicted of raping a nine-year-old girl. The heinous crimes occurred when Woodhall was just 19 years old, during a six-week period in 1993, and have only come to light many years later.

Woodhall, now aged 38, was identified as the perpetrator following a re-examination of the case, which was initially reported to South Yorkshire Police at the time. However, the young girl involved did not press charges initially because she believed that Woodhall was her boyfriend and was under the impression that their relationship was consensual. It was only in 2012, after a series of high-profile cases involving historic sexual offenses, that she decided to come forward and report the abuse again.

The court proceedings took place at Sheffield Crown Court, where a jury found Woodhall guilty of two counts of rape and four counts of indecent assault. The evidence presented during the trial painted a disturbing picture of grooming and manipulation, with Woodhall allegedly convincing the young girl that she was his girlfriend and consenting to sexual activity.

Following the sentencing, Detective Sergeant Heather Stocks, who led the investigation, issued a statement emphasizing the severity of the crimes. She said, “The sentence handed to Woodhall reflects the appalling nature of his crimes and demonstrates our commitment to locking up those who sexually exploit children. The victim has shown great courage coming forward, and I hope this sentence offers her some closure after what has been a very difficult and traumatic experience for her.”
