JASON WATTS FROM SWINDON SENTENCED AFTER REPEATED OFFENSES INVOLVING CHILD SEXUAL GROOMING AND ONLINE PREDATION IN THE US AND UK

In a series of disturbing incidents spanning from June 2018 to March 2019, Jason Watts, a resident of Swindon, was involved in multiple attempts to engage in sexual activities with minors, both online and in person.

His actions have drawn significant attention from law enforcement agencies and the judicial system due to the serious nature of his offenses and his repeated breaches of legal restrictions.

In June 2018, Watts was caught in a sting operation conducted by paedophile hunters after he traveled from Swindon to South Wales with the intent of meeting a 15-year-old girl for sexual purposes.

The individual he believed to be the girl was actually an undercover law enforcement officer.

Watts had arranged to meet her after exchanging explicit photographs and expressing romantic feelings, believing he was communicating with a minor.

The operation resulted in his arrest, and he was subsequently charged with attempting to meet a child for sexual activity, among other offenses.

Despite his previous conviction, Watts was spared immediate jail time, but the court imposed strict conditions, including a five-year sex offender registration requirement and a community order.

By December of the same year, Watts was back online, actively seeking contact with minors.

He used Kik Messenger to communicate with a profile he believed belonged to a 14-year-old girl.

Unbeknownst to him, this profile was a decoy operated by US Homeland Security.

The messages revealed Watts's continued pattern of sexualized chat and grooming behavior, similar to his previous offenses.

He also failed to comply with the conditions of his sex offender registration by moving from Calne to Bristol without informing authorities, further breaching the terms of his supervision.

In March 2019, Watts's online activities culminated in a serious legal case.

He was caught attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity after engaging in online conversations with a law enforcement officer posing as a minor in the United States.

The court heard that Watts had been engaging in sexualized conversations with the decoy, including sending explicit messages and discussing plans to meet.

His actions demonstrated a clear pattern of predatory behavior, and authorities confirmed that he posed a significant risk to children.

During the court proceedings at Swindon Crown Court, Watts pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity, breaching a sexual harm prevention order, failing to comply with his sex offender registration, and breaching a community order.

The judge, Judge Robert Pawson, emphasized the gravity of Watts's repeated breaches and the potential danger he posed to minors.

He highlighted the similarities between Watts's recent offenses and his previous conduct in 2018, noting that the risk of serious harm to female children under 16 remained high.

As a result, Watts was sentenced to three years and three months in prison, with an extended license period of two years and nine months.

The judge also imposed a 12-year sexual harm prevention order and mandated that Watts register as a sex offender for life.

The court determined that Watts presents a substantial risk of reoffending, and therefore, he will serve two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for parole.

The case underscores the ongoing threat posed by individuals like Watts, who continue to seek contact with minors despite legal restrictions and previous convictions.

Mark Ashley, the prosecutor, stated that Watts was placed on a community order last summer, which included a sexual harm prevention order restricting his contact with girls under 16 and prohibiting him from possessing internet-enabled devices without police approval.

Despite these restrictions, Watts continued to seek out minors online, as evidenced by his interactions on Kik Messenger and other platforms.

His failure to adhere to legal conditions and his ongoing attempts to contact children highlight the persistent danger he poses.

The authorities and the court have made it clear that Watts's behavior warrants strict supervision and long-term monitoring to prevent further harm to vulnerable minors.
