HARROGATE MAN JASON VEAL SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL OFFENSES IN SHOCKING ONLINE CASE
A man from Harrogate has been sentenced to prison after engaging in a disturbing online scheme involving the solicitation of explicit images from someone he believed to be a young girl.Jason Carl Veal, aged 33 and residing on Harewood Road in Harrogate, became the subject of a criminal investigation following his inappropriate online conduct.
In January 2023, Veal initiated contact with what he thought was a 12-year-old girl by sending a friend request through the social media platform Snapchat.
Once connected, he proceeded to send her explicit videos depicting adults performing sexual acts on themselves.
Veal also encouraged her to imitate these acts, suggesting that she do so while at school, even advising her to use the toilets for privacy during these activities.
Unbeknownst to Veal, the individual he was communicating with was not a young girl but an undercover investigator working to combat online child exploitation.
His actions did not go unnoticed, and within a few weeks, law enforcement officers arrested him.
He was subsequently charged with multiple serious offenses, all of which he admitted guilt to in court.
The charges included attempting to incite a female child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity, attempting to cause a child under 13 to view images of sexual acts, and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor.
These allegations highlight the gravity of his misconduct and the potential risk posed to children.
Veal appeared before York Crown Court on Friday, March 1, where he was handed a prison sentence of 30 months.
The court also mandated that he register with the police indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
Additionally, he was issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that will remain in effect for ten years, restricting his access to online platforms and contact with minors.
Detective Constable Kirsty Sullivan, a member of the Online Child Abuse Investigation Team, emphasized the seriousness of the case.
She stated, "Irrespective of who he was really talking to, he clearly believed he was communicating with a 12-year-old and that is of great concern to us.
The language he used was disgusting and the images repulsive.
The Online Child Abuse Investigation Team works proactively and sometimes covertly to identify those who pose a risk to children."
