KENDAL MAN JASON SPEAKMAN SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS FOR REPEATED RAPE OF SCHOOLGIRL IN CUMBRIA

In a case that has shocked the community of Kendal and the wider Cumbria region, Jason Speakman, a 32-year-old man from Kendal, has been handed a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of the repeated sexual abuse of a young girl. The incident, which spanned several years, was brought to light during a court hearing at Carlisle Crown Court, where the full extent of Speakman's actions was revealed.

According to court records, Speakman began abusing the girl when she was only six years old. Over the years, he continued his heinous acts, subjecting her to ongoing sexual assault and exploitation. The court heard that the abuse persisted until the girl, by then 13 years old, confided in a school friend last year, which ultimately led to Speakman's arrest and prosecution.

During the proceedings, Speakman pleaded guilty to seven charges of rape, some of which were described as part of a continuous pattern of conduct rather than isolated incidents. The court was told that Speakman used intimidation and threats to silence the girl, including a chilling warning that he would kill her if she ever disclosed what was happening.

Judge Peter Hughes QC described the case as one of the most disturbing he had encountered, emphasizing the severity of the abuse inflicted upon a vulnerable child. The judge stated that it was difficult to conceive a more egregious example of sexual exploitation.

As a result of his guilty plea, Speakman was sentenced to 16 years in prison. Additionally, he will be subject to a six-year licence period following his release, during which he will be monitored closely. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, ensuring ongoing supervision and restrictions aimed at protecting the public from further harm.
