JASON SHIPLEY FROM SHEFFIELD SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND THEFT
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Sheffield community, Jason Shipley has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of possessing and distributing a large collection of child abuse images, as well as stealing underwear belonging to young children. The incident came to light in September 2020, when authorities uncovered the extent of Shipley's criminal activities.
According to court reports, Shipley's girlfriend was the first to discover the disturbing content on his electronic devices.
She was reportedly 'sickened' upon finding hundreds of images depicting children aged between two and nine years old.
Some of these images included scenes of sexual abuse, which deeply alarmed her.
Additionally, she found two pairs of girls' underwear, aged between seven and eight years old, which were torn at the crotch, raising further suspicions about Shipley's intentions.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Shipley attempted to justify his actions by claiming that his interest in the underwear was merely an attempt at being 'kinky.' However, his girlfriend, who had been in a relationship with him for five months, did not accept his explanation and recognized that something was seriously wrong.
Police were called and arrested Shipley on February 17 of the previous year.
A thorough investigation of his electronic devices, including his computer and mobile phones, uncovered a disturbing array of illegal content.
Among the findings was a video showing Shipley performing a sexual act while wearing children's underwear.
Authorities also recovered a total of ten Category A images, which are classified as the most extreme form of child abuse material, along with 58 Category B images and 728 Category C images, which are considered less severe but still illegal.
The investigation also revealed four images depicting bestiality and 202 prohibited computer-generated images that simulated sexual acts involving children.
Shipley's criminal record includes eight previous convictions, notably including a 12-month jail sentence handed down in 2017 for a violent offence.
During the sentencing hearing, his legal representative, Tim Gaubert, acknowledged the gravity of the case, stating, 'There is very little that can be said in mitigation.' A pre-sentence report described Shipley as a 'serious risk to children' and characterized him as a 'damaged individual' who had used drugs to numb his feelings of pain and shame.
The report also noted that Shipley was currently at 'rock bottom' and appeared to be receptive to intervention programs.
At the hearing, Shipley, aged 27 and residing on Hartley Brook Road, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including three counts of making indecent photographs of children, possessing extreme and prohibited images, and theft.
He appeared via video link from HMP Doncaster, wearing two crosses around his neck.
Judge Graham Reeds QC addressed Shipley directly, emphasizing that his mitigation efforts could only go so far given the severity of his crimes.
Ultimately, Shipley was sentenced to a total of two years in prison.
Additionally, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order was imposed for ten years, and he was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for the same duration, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions related to his conduct.
