Jason Shaw

Belfast Sexual Abuser

May 2017 Serial flasher avoids jail after exposing himself to students A serial flasher narrowly avoided jail yesterday for exposing himself to two female teenage students. Prolific sex pest Jason Leonard Shaw received a one-year sentence suspended for three years after he admitted the offence. The court was told Shaw, of Great Northern Street, South Belfast, had 41 previous convictions – 20 for indecent exposure or exposure offences against children and females He is currently the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order which expires in July 2021. Shaw’s history of convictions of flashing at schoolgirls goes back to at least 2003 when he exposed himself to girls in three separate incidents in Newtownards. He narrowly avoided jail after he exposed himself to the girls, aged between 14 and 17, on Victoria Street and East Street in the town. Shaw was jailed for 18 months in 2011 for exposing himself to a schoolgirl in the changing rooms of a fashion store in Belfast city centre In 2012 he was jailed for eight months for flashing at a mum and daughter at a store in the busy Junction One shopping complex in Antrim In 2016, Shaw exposed himself while standing by a park bench, and two days later was seen again in Botanic Gardens. The following day he was spotted standing in a doorway in Botanic Avenue exposing himself as a number of young girls passed by. Two months later Shaw was seen by several Queen’s University students standing half-naked in a doorway in Malone Road. In April, security staff at the university chased and caught Shaw hiding under a parked car after students complained of a man exposing himself near the university library building. September 2016 Northern Ireland’s most prolific flasher Shaw lashes out at reporter Serial sex offender Jason Leonard Shaw has lashed out at a reporter outside court, punching him on the side of the head after he was asked for a comment. Forty-six-year-old Shaw — who has convictions for exposing himself dating back 30 years — is more used to picking on women and schoolgirls. But he reacted furiously when spoken to by Sunday Life outside Laganside Court in Belfast, last week. The incident has been reported to police. Shaw, of Great Northern Street in Belfast, was spared jail for his latest seedy offence —  performing a sex act on himself outside a woman’s house in the south of the city. A prosecutor said Shaw was seen by his victim pleasuring himself outside her home near Botanic Avenue in May last year. Shaw, who was declared bankrupt last year, admitted in court to committing a lewd, obscene and disgusting act. District Judge Fiona Bagnall sentenced him to 12 months probation, and he will remain on the sex offenders’ register for another five years. It comes just days after the father-of-two was given a two-year probation order for five separate charges of exposing himself between August 2014 and April last year. A prosecution lawyer told a hearing that Shaw was seen exposing his genitals to young girls and Queen’s University students over three consecutive days in August. On April 7 last year, while out on bail awaiting sentencing on those charges, he again exposed himself to a woman. However, he was freed on bail yet again in February this year to attend a Christian Fellowship meeting at a church not far from his favourite flashing zone. The serial creep’s form is understood to date back to the 1980s and is littered with dozens of convictions for sick sexual acts. Shaw was jailed for 18 months in 2011 for exposing himself to a schoolgirl in the changing rooms of a fashion store in Belfast city centre in March 2009. The judge barred Shaw from using men’s changing facilities where ladies’ or children’s clothing are on display in the same department. He was also put on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years. In 2012 he was jailed for eight months for flashing at a mum and daughter at a store in the busy Junction One shopping complex in Antrim in April 2010. Antrim Crown Court was told how his victims were trying on clothes in a changing room when they noticed him using a wall-mounted mirror to peer into their cubicle. Shaw’s record of flashing at schoolgirls goes back to at least 2003 when he exposed himself to teenagers in three separate incidents in Newtownards. He narrowly avoided jail after he exposed himself to the girls, aged between 14 and 17, on Victoria Street and East Street in the town. The sex pest has lived at numerous addresses in the greater Belfast and Co Antrim areas and was once forced to flee his family home at Ballycarry, near Carrickfergus, after word of his convictions spread.
