JASON SELF REPEATEDLY KICKS PET DOG IN CWMBRAN - COURT SENTENCE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Cwmbran, Jason P Self, born on May 4, 1981, and residing at 9 Belle Vue Road, was found guilty of inflicting severe abuse on his pet dog. The incident came to light after a vigilant member of the public captured footage showing Self repeatedly kicking his male English bulldog, named Bruce, in the face and body. This footage was subsequently handed over to the RSPCA, leading to a thorough investigation and eventual court proceedings.

Self admitted to causing unnecessary suffering to Bruce, and during the court hearing, he expressed remorse for his actions. The case was further supported by a statement from RSPCA Inspector Simon Evans, who recounted his interaction with the witness who recorded the incident. Inspector Evans confirmed that the witness had seen Self kicking Bruce multiple times, with the blows directed at the dog’s face and body. The inspector also noted that the dog was no longer on the premises and had been rehomed, a development that brought some relief to the authorities.

Inspector Evans later met Bruce and his new owner, who expressed confidence in the dog’s temperament and happiness in his new environment. The court was also presented with a veterinary report based on the footage, which detailed the severity of the abuse. The vet described how Self forcefully kicked Bruce several times, both to the body and head, and then lifted him by the scruff and under the body before throwing him to the ground with enough force to be audible from a distance. The report emphasized that such blows would have caused immediate pain, bruising, and ongoing suffering, and that Bruce was likely frightened throughout the ordeal, being shouted at, kicked, and aggressively handled.

The veterinary evidence clearly indicated deliberate cruelty, with the actions aimed at causing pain and distress to the dog. The court heard that the abuse was not accidental but a calculated effort to inflict suffering.

Following the sentencing, Inspector Evans commented on the case, describing it as very upsetting. He expressed gratitude to the member of the public who provided the video evidence, which was crucial in securing justice. Evans also shared that Bruce had been rehomed and was thriving in his new home, bringing some comfort amidst the distressing circumstances.

The court sentenced Self to a 12-month community order, which includes 60 hours of unpaid work, a 10-day rehabilitation activity requirement, and a victim surcharge of £114. Additionally, Self was banned from owning dogs for a period of 10 years, a ban that will last until October 2034. This case underscores the importance of vigilance and swift action in protecting vulnerable animals from cruelty and abuse in the community of Cwmbran.
