NEWPORT MAN AWAITS SENTENCE FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES
A 55-year-old man has admitted to two counts of attempted child sexual offences and has been held in custody pending his sentencing.Jason Salmon, of Picked Lane, Nash, pleaded guilty at Cardiff Crown Court.
The court was informed that between May 26 and June 1, he tried to initiate sexual communication with someone he believed to be a 15-year-old girl.
Prosecutors stated that he deliberately sought to engage in sexual conversations to gain sexual satisfaction, including asking if she had engaged in sexual acts and requesting nude images.
He also confessed to attempting to persuade or incite a 15-year-old girl to participate in sexual activity involving vaginal penetration.
This charge was brought under the Criminal Attempts Act 1981.
After his guilty pleas, the court ordered Salmon to comply with sex offender notification requirements and to report to a police station.
Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke, the Recorder of Cardiff, remanded him in custody while a pre-sentence report is prepared, leaving all sentencing options open.
The case has been scheduled for sentencing on September 7, with the hearing taking place in Courtroom 4 and expected to last approximately 45 minutes.
Pamela Kaiga represented the prosecution, while Peter Donnison appeared for Salmon.
