June 2007 Man convicted over child porn to be extradited AN IRISHMAN who received a prison sentence for possession of child pornography yesterday is to be extradited to England on similar charges. Jason Maguire (24), pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of child pornography on July 28, 2006. Maguire absconded before his trial in England for similar charges in 2002 and was subsequently the subject of a European arrest warrant before his detention in Ireland last year. Judge Desmond Hogan imposed a two-year jail sentence, with the final year suspended and backdated it to last July to reflect time spent in custody. He ordered that Maguire, of Killininny Court, Firhouse, be registered as a sex offender and the pornographic material be destroyed. Prosecuting counsel Bernard Condon submitted that this sentence had now expired and Judge Hogan remanded Maguire in custody to be surrendered to the English authorities. He noted that Maguire would receive treatment in England on completion of any sentence imposed there. Sergeant Ivan Howlin said that during a search of Maguire’s rented accommodation in Firhouse, they seized 15 CD-Rs (Recordable Compact Discs), a number of memory sticks and two hard disk drives. These had 2,938 photos and 300 videos depicting naked children aged between two and 15 years old who were involved in or being subjected to sexual acts. He said the images were at the “upper end of the spectrum”. Maguire agreed he had sole access to the computer equipment and admitted possession of child pornography. Sgt Howlin said Maguire was from Dublin but had spent time inWales where his mother lived. He had no previous convictions and lived in rented accommodation since his return to Dublin. Defence counsel Remy Farrell told the court Maguire had worked in the computer industry but lived a “solitary and introverted existence” and had “an introverted aspect to his personality”.
