JASON JEFFREY FROM CHRISTCHURCH SENTENCED FOR RAPE ATTEMPT IN BOURNEMOUTH AND POOLE

In October 2019, a man identified as Jason Jeffrey, aged 48 and formerly residing in Christchurch, was sentenced to a prison term of three years and four months after admitting to an attempted rape that took place in Poole. The conviction followed a trial at Bournemouth Crown Court, during which Jeffrey pleaded guilty on the second day, after both the victim and her sister provided their testimonies.

The incident occurred on the night of December 20, 2016, when the victim, a woman in her 30s, along with three friends, attended a Christmas celebration in Parkstone. After the party, they decided to continue their festivities at the Xchange bar located in The Triangle, Bournemouth. Around 1 a.m. on December 21, Jeffrey entered the bar, took a seat at the counter with a drink, and initiated a conversation with one of the victim’s friends. The group eventually left the bar together and went to a residence on Longfleet Road in Poole, where they continued drinking.

Witnesses reported seeing Jeffrey engaging in a passionate kiss with one of the victim’s male friends on two separate occasions. During the night, the victim, who was in her 30s, fell asleep on the floor next to her friend, dressed in a dressing gown. She was later moved onto a sofa bed and covered with a blanket to rest. However, her memory of the night was interrupted when she awoke to find Jeffrey attempting to engage in sexual activity with her. She noticed bruises on her thighs, which indicated she had been assaulted.

Realizing what was happening, the victim got up and left the premises. She immediately tried to contact her partner but was unable to reach him. Subsequently, she called her sister, who lives in another part of the country, and informed her of the assault. The incident was reported to Dorset Police just before 8 a.m. the following morning. Officers responded promptly to the scene, where they arrested Jeffrey at the address. He was formally charged in July 2018.

Jeffrey’s case was brought before Bournemouth Crown Court, where he ultimately pleaded guilty to the attempted rape. His sentencing in September 2019 marked the culmination of a lengthy investigation and legal process, highlighting the serious nature of the crime and the impact on the victim.
