NEWPORT SEX OFFENDER JASON JAMES RECALLED TO PRISON FOR REPEAT POSSESSION OF INDECENT IMAGES
In September 2017, a Newport man named Jason James, residing on Caerau Road, was jailed once again for possessing indecent images of children, just months after serving an 18-month sentence for the same offence.
James, aged 36, appeared at Newport Crown Court more than a year after his previous sentence and pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children, including some classified in the most severe category.
He was also found to be in breach of a sexual harm and prevention order (SHPO) that had been imposed following his earlier crimes.
The prosecution, led by Jason Howells, explained that police officers searched James' residence at Caerleon House Hotel on August 26.
James cooperated with authorities, admitting that he had images on his mobile phone and acknowledging that he had violated the SHPO.
During the investigation, officers discovered a collection of still images—three in category A, six in category B, and nine in category C.
James also told police he had deleted additional indecent images from his phone.
A probation officer's statement, read out in court, indicated that James would benefit from a treatment programme only available in custody and described him as having a "high risk of reoffending." Before sentencing, Judge Williams addressed James, stating: "On September 16 of last year I sentenced you to 18 months imprisonment for possession of indecent images.
These images were utterly appalling, and I told you then that behind each one is a real child being abused and recorded, to be watched by people like you for sexual gratification.
In this case, there were relatively few images, but you had deleted many more." Ultimately, James was sentenced to an additional 12 months in prison.
His name was placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years, and his existing SHPO was renewed.
