JASON HORLER FROME SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR GROOMING AND SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS IN SOMERSET

In a significant case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Frome and the wider Somerset area, Jason Simon Horler, a 30-year-old man with no fixed address, has been handed a lengthy prison sentence of 12 years. The sentencing took place at Taunton Crown Court on a recent Tuesday, following Horler's guilty plea to multiple serious charges related to the exploitation of underage girls.

Horler's criminal activities included offering class A drugs, specifically cocaine, to others, which compounded his criminal profile. The court also found him responsible for engaging in sexual activities with a female under the age of 16 on six separate occasions. Additionally, four other allegations concerning similar offences remain on file, indicating a pattern of predatory behavior.

As part of the court's ruling, Horler's mobile phone was confiscated and forfeited, a move that underscores the importance of digital evidence in modern criminal investigations. The case drew attention not only for the severity of the offences but also for the disturbing methods Horler employed to manipulate his victims.

Following the conclusion of the case, Detective Inspector Lindsay Shearlock issued a statement to the Somerset Standard, describing Horler as a predator who targeted teenage girls within the Mendip area. Shearlock explained that Horler used social media platform Facebook and text messaging to groom two teenage girls, gradually building their trust and manipulating their feelings. The offender then convinced these vulnerable girls to meet him in person, despite their young ages.

Shearlock emphasized that both girls were under 16 at the time, highlighting the gravity of the exploitation. She pointed out that these young victims were not capable of making fully informed decisions about their interactions with Horler, which made his actions particularly heinous. The detective noted that once the girls managed to distance themselves from Horler's influence, they recognized him for what he truly was—a predator.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by online grooming and the importance of vigilance among parents, guardians, and young people. Detective Shearlock expressed hope that the conviction would reassure victims that law enforcement agencies take such allegations seriously and are committed to bringing offenders to justice.

In addition to his prison sentence, Horler was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, ensuring that he remains under supervision and scrutiny for the foreseeable future. He was also disqualified from working with children for life, a measure designed to prevent any future risk to vulnerable minors. Furthermore, a sexual offences prevention order was issued against him, imposing restrictions aimed at safeguarding the community from potential reoffending.
