JASON HOODLESS: HULL PAEDOPHILE SENTENCED FOR SICKENING IMAGES AND SEXUAL OFFENCES IN HULL

In May 2019, Jason Hoodlass, a 23-year-old man from Hull, was finally brought to justice for a series of disturbing crimes involving indecent images of children and previous sexual offences.

The case unfolded after Hoodlass attempted to pawn his mobile phone at a Cash Converters store located on King Edward Street in Hull city centre, on May 16, 2017, an act that ultimately led to his arrest and subsequent conviction.

According to reports, a staff member at the pawn shop discovered alarming content on Hoodlass's Alcatel mobile phone during the transaction.

The images included a photograph of a three-year-old child and another depicting a person engaged in sexual activity with a dog.

Horrified by the discovery, the staff member promptly contacted the police, initiating an investigation into Hoodlass's activities.

During police interviews, Hoodlass claimed that he had purchased the phone from an individual named “John” via Gumtree and had taken it directly to the shop to trade it in for a modest £20 loan.

He maintained his innocence, denying any involvement with the images found on his device.

However, the evidence presented in court painted a different picture.

A jury at Hull Crown Court found Hoodlass guilty on April 3 of three counts of possessing indecent photographs of children and one count of possessing an extreme pornographic image, specifically a person having sex with an animal.

The court proceedings revealed that police had uncovered a significant amount of illicit material on Hoodlass’s phone.

The device contained one Category A image, five Category B images, and 42 Category C images, along with a single extreme pornography image.

Additionally, police discovered that Hoodlass had installed applications designed to conceal these images and websites he visited, including the use of a VPN and the Hide My Pics app, indicating an attempt to hide his activities.

The prosecution also highlighted Hoodlass’s troubling past.

It was revealed that at the age of 16, he was convicted of making indecent photographs of children.

Further investigation uncovered that a laptop used by Hoodlass contained 430 Category A images, featuring girls aged between three and 14.

The internet search history on his devices included terms such as “preteen models,” “child nudist,” “pre teens models,” and “Little girl upskirt,” suggesting a pattern of disturbing interests.

Hoodlass’s criminal history is extensive.

On April 22, 2016, he was convicted of sexually assaulting a girl under 13 and sentenced to two years in a young offender institution.

He was released on licence on April 21, 2017, just a month before attempting to pawn the illicit phone in Hull.

The court noted that his release conditions and previous convictions were aggravating factors in his current sentencing.

Judge Bury addressed Hoodlass directly, stating, “You pleaded the phone was not yours and you had just paid for it for a small amount of money and that you were hoping to make a quick profit.

Your account was bogus.

Your pre-sentence report shows you continue to deny this offence.

This is the second time you fall to be sentenced and you are only 23.” In light of the evidence, the judge sentenced Hoodlass to two years in prison.

Furthermore, he was ordered to be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for the next ten years, reflecting the serious nature of his offences and the potential risk he poses to the public.

In a related incident from April 2019, it was reported that Hoodlass, then aged 22, was involved in a sexual assault on a girl, which compounded concerns about his dangerousness.

The court proceedings revealed that he had previously been convicted of similar offences, including making indecent images of children in 2013, when he was just 16.

Police found that his devices contained a large number of extreme images and that his online activity included searches for “preteen models” and “child nudist,” further indicating a pattern of predatory behaviour.

Judge Bury emphasized the gravity of Hoodlass’s actions, stating, “Jason Hoodlass, stand up.

You have been convicted on what I regard as overwhelming evidence in relation to four offences of possessing either indecent images of children or extreme pornography.

You have a like conviction and also you have a conviction for contact sexual offences against a child under the age of 13.

It seems to me I should, therefore, take the view of the probation service on the issue of whether you are a dangerous offender, so I’m going to ask the probation service to prepare a report for me on that single issue.

As a result of your conviction, bail is now revoked and you are remanded in custody.” Hoodlass’s sentencing is scheduled for May 10 at Hull Crown Court, where the full extent of his criminal conduct and the appropriate penalties will be finalized.
