JASON GRAHAM FROM COLLINGHAM SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES IN NOTTINGHAM

In December 2017, a man identified as Jason Graham, aged 47 and residing on Monkwood Close in Collingham, was sentenced to eight months in prison after being found guilty of possessing and downloading explicit images of children. The case was brought to light following a police investigation into his electronic devices, which uncovered a disturbing collection of indecent material.

On a visit to Graham’s home in November 2016, officers from the Sexual Exploitation Investigation Unit conducted a search and subsequently analyzed his laptop and tablet computer. The forensic examination revealed a total of 253 indecent images of children stored across both devices. Specifically, 176 images were located on his laptop, while 77 were found on his tablet. Among these, 21 images fell into the most severe category, known as category A, indicating the highest level of explicitness and harm.

One particularly distressing video was highlighted during the court proceedings, depicting a young girl estimated to be around five or six years old. The video showed her being assaulted by an adult male, a scene that prosecutors described as especially disturbing. The evidence presented painted a grim picture of Graham’s online activities, which included visiting chat forums dedicated to discussing sexual fantasies involving minors. During police interviews, Graham admitted that he would access these sites to view and download such illicit images, revealing a troubling pattern of behavior.

Graham’s defense attorney, Mr. Jonathan Hullis, acknowledged his client’s efforts to address his offending. He stated that Graham had taken proactive steps by enrolling in an online course offered by a child protection charity that works with sex offenders. Mr. Hullis emphasized Graham’s remorse and his desire to understand the root causes of his actions, expressing hope that he would never repeat such offenses. The defense also pointed out that Graham had previously been of good character and that his imprisonment would result in the loss of his employment as a vending machine engineer.

Prior to the sentencing at Nottingham Crown Court, Graham had appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court, where he admitted to possessing the 253 indecent images and three additional charges related to creating indecent photographs of children. The Crown Court subsequently handed down a sentence of eight months’ imprisonment, with half of that term to be served on license. Additionally, Graham received three concurrent sentences for related charges: three months for viewing a category B image, two months for a category C image, and eight months for the most serious category A images. These concurrent sentences were used to streamline the legal process given the multiple charges.

The presiding judge, Recorder Paul Mann, QC, rejected an application by Graham’s defense for a pre-sentence report, citing the severity of the case. During sentencing, the judge described the content Graham had accessed, including videos showing very young children being sexually assaulted or performing sexual acts. He emphasized that the children involved were extremely vulnerable and that their abuse was both heinous and deeply disturbing. Judge Mann expressed his disbelief at how Graham could derive any pleasure from such material, noting that Graham’s online searches and participation in chat forums were aggravating factors.

As part of his punishment, Graham will be registered as a sex offender for ten years, a measure that will prohibit him from working with children or in roles that involve contact with minors. The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the distribution and possession of child exploitation material, and highlights the serious consequences faced by individuals involved in such offenses.
