JASON FINDLAY BANNED FROM COMPUTERS IN BOURNEMOUTH AFTER CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CASE

In a case that has shocked the Bournemouth community, Jason Findlay, a 40-year-old plasterer from King John Avenue, Bearwood, was subjected to a community sentence after being found guilty of downloading and distributing child pornography. The incident came to light following a police raid on his residence in the early hours of January 25, 2008, during which authorities seized his computer equipment for forensic examination.

Investigators uncovered a disturbing collection of nearly 5,000 indecent images of children stored on Findlay’s computer. The images were classified into different levels of severity, with 4,768 deemed to be of the least serious category, level one. However, the authorities also found 29 images categorized as level four, and one as level five, indicating the most severe form of child exploitation. Additionally, there were 19 moving images, including two classified at level four, further highlighting the gravity of the material involved.

During the court proceedings at Bournemouth Crown Court, prosecutor Heather Shimmon revealed that approximately 80 percent of the images found on Findlay’s computer depicted a young girl named Sandra, who was between 13 and 16 years old at the time. While most of these images were not explicit nudity, they were semi-erotic in nature, raising serious concerns about the exploitation and the nature of the material.

Further investigation uncovered chat logs in which Findlay appeared to have been discussing the images with others. Evidence indicated that he had both sent and received indecent images, some of which were explicitly inappropriate. The court was told that Findlay had admitted to 22 counts of making indecent photographs of children and two counts of distributing such images.

Defence lawyer Tom Horder argued that Findlay had recognized the unnatural and dangerous nature of his behavior, especially his obsession with Sandra, who is now 20 years old. Horder emphasized that the case had severely impacted Findlay’s personal life, leading to his partner, Sandra’s mother, cutting off all contact and causing his life to “go to pieces.”

In sentencing, Judge Christopher Harvey-Clark QC ordered a three-year supervision period, during which Findlay is required to participate in an 85-day sex offenders’ rehabilitation program. The judge also imposed an indefinite sexual offences prevention order, which restricts Findlay from using any computer that does not have anti-pornography software installed. Furthermore, Findlay was ordered to remain on the sex offenders register for a period of five years, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes and the need for ongoing monitoring.
