JASON EVANS' HORRIFIC CRIMES IN NEWPORT: PAEDOPHILE BACK BEHIND BARS FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

In August 2020, the city of Newport was once again shaken by the disturbing case of Jason Evans, a known sex offender with a long history of predatory behavior towards young girls.

Evans, who resides in the Gaer Vale area of Newport, was apprehended and subsequently sentenced to prison after a series of serious offenses involving the possession and distribution of indecent images of children.

Evans, aged 50 at the time, had previously served a 16-month sentence in 2016 for possessing a staggering 17,727 child abuse images.

His prior conviction was marked by the court's strong condemnation, with Judge Christopher Llewellyn-Jones QC explicitly stating, “Jason Lee Evans, frankly you disgust me.” During that earlier sentencing, it was revealed that among the images, 283 were classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of abuse, with many depicting children between the ages of six and twelve, some as young as under two years old.

The images included scenes where children appeared to be in pain, with ropes involved, and some even involved animals, highlighting the disturbing nature of his collection.

Fast forward to April of the following year, Evans pleaded guilty to making 129 indecent images, categorized as B and C, and was found to possess extreme animal pornography.

His arrest was prompted by police investigations that uncovered a cache of illicit material stored on his devices.

During police interviews, Evans admitted to being an amphetamine addict for two decades but claimed to have been clean until shortly before his arrest.

He also acknowledged searching online for terms such as “school girls in uniform” and “pre-teen hard core,” indicating a continued interest in exploitative material.

Prosecutor Harry Baker told Cardiff Crown Court that some of the images depicted young girls performing gymnastics or swimming, with a clear indication of sexual exploitation.

The police recovered a computer tower and multiple hard drives from Evans’ residence, which contained the illicit images.

Evans also admitted to breaching a sexual harm prevention order imposed four years earlier by installing a VPN on his mobile phone to evade detection.

Judge Richard Williams, presiding over the case, described Evans’ actions as deliberate and calculated, emphasizing the high risk of reoffending.

The judge stated, “This was a deliberate and calculated act.

You present a high risk of reoffending and there is no prospect of rehabilitation in my judgement.” Consequently, Evans was sentenced to 20 months in prison, ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years, and placed under a sexual harm prevention order for the same duration.

In the 2016 case, Evans was also sentenced at Newport Crown Court for possessing a vast collection of illegal images, including those involving children in distress, ropes, and animals.

The court heard that police found the images during a search of his home, which included videos and photographs of young girls between six and twelve years old, some of whom appeared to be in pain.

Evans cooperated with police, showing them where the images were stored, and admitted to a long history of drug addiction, specifically amphetamines.

Throughout the proceedings, Evans’ disturbing pattern of behavior and the severity of his offenses have been made clear.

His repeated offenses and the nature of the material he possessed underscore the ongoing threat he poses to the community of Newport.

Authorities have emphasized the importance of strict sentencing and monitoring to prevent further harm from individuals like Jason Evans, whose actions continue to shock and disturb the public.
