WORCESTER PAEDOPHILE JAROSLAW SUWALSKI SENTENCED TO 17 YEARS FOR ABUSE AND VOYEURISM

In May 2021, a convicted paedophile from Worcester, Jaroslaw Suwalski, was sentenced to 17 years in prison for raping and sexually abusing a young girl, as well as for voyeurism involving over 10,500 photographs taken via a hidden spy camera concealed in an air freshener.

Suwalski, who had been residing in Worcester, displayed no emotion as he was sentenced at Worcester Crown Court following a trial in Coventry, during which the jury found him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The abuse began when the victim was just seven years old.

During her victim personal statement, she described the profound impact the abuse had on her, stating, "I felt lifeless.

I lost myself so much I didn’t even recognize myself." The 43-year-old Polish national, living in Shrub Hill, was convicted on five counts of sexual offences against the same child, who cannot be named publicly for legal reasons.

The jury unanimously reached a guilty verdict on April 9.

The judge, James Burbidge QC, characterized Suwalski as an 'economic migrant' and noted that he was previously of good character.

Following his conviction, Suwalski faces automatic deportation.

The allegations included rape of a child under 13, inciting or causing a child to engage in sexual activity, voyeurism, and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.

The offences spanned from November 25, 2007, to August 23, 2017.

The victim recounted feelings of being 'alone and vulnerable' and described the emotional toll of the abuse, adding, "I was desensitised to any emotion.

I felt like I wasn’t alive." She also said, "When I looked in the mirror, I didn’t feel real." Judge Burbidge highlighted that Suwalski had covertly installed a spy camera inside an air freshener, which he used to take more than 10,500 photos.

Although Suwalski claimed the camera was for ensuring the victim did not self-harm, the judge stated, "You did it for your own sexual gratification." The judge noted there was no evidence to suggest Suwalski intended to share these images with paedophiles.

The court heard that since 2007, Suwalski harbored a 'dark secret,' and the judge condemned him for abusing the girl in the 'grossest of ways,' labeling him an 'offender of particular concern.' An assessment indicated Suwalski remains in denial about his actions, which the judge found troubling and relevant to future parole considerations.

Sentenced to an initial term of 17 years for rape, with an additional year on license due to his status as an offender of particular concern, Suwalski must serve at least two-thirds of his prison sentence before being eligible for parole.

He received concurrent sentences of six, seven, 18 months, and two years for other related offences, maintaining the overall sentence at 17 years.

The judge warned him, "You will doubtless be contacted by the debarring authority to say you should not work with children." Additionally, an indefinite sexual harm prevention order was imposed, which bans Suwalski from having any unsupervised contact or communication with children under 16 unless with prior consent from guardians and social services, who must be fully informed of his conviction.

He is also prohibited from residing where any child under 16 resides and from possessing devices capable of storing images that are disguised as other objects.

West Mercia Police stated they were unable to provide a custody photograph of Suwalski upon request.
