JANE KNIGHTINGALE SHOCKS EDINBURGH WITH NAKED OUTBURST AND OBSTRUCTION CHARGE
In a disturbing incident that unfolded in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, a transgender woman identified as Jane Knightingale, aged 55, found herself at the center of a police confrontation that drew significant attention from local authorities and the community alike.According to reports presented in Edinburgh Sheriff Court, police officers responded to a call about a violent disturbance at Knightingale's residence around 10:30 pm.
When PC David Hughes and his colleague arrived at the scene, they observed a 'bloody handprint' on the front door, indicating a recent altercation or struggle.
As they approached, they were met with an unexpected and shocking sight: Knightingale answered the door completely unclothed.
PC Hughes recounted that he was 'shocked' upon seeing her fully naked, and during the encounter, Knightingale made a series of provocative and offensive remarks.
She refused to allow the officers entry into her home, instead engaging in a drunken exchange where she called one officer a 'Nazi fascist' and claimed her name was 'James Savile OBE' when asked for her identification.
During this confrontation, she also exposed herself intentionally, revealing her 'penis and testicles' to the officers.
Further details from the police officers' testimonies indicated that Knightingale used homophobic and racially offensive language.
PC David Jones observed her 'penis and testicles' when she opened the door, and she called him a 'German Nazi' and a 'p**f.' She also continued to refer to herself as 'James Savile OBE' despite being asked her real name.
The officers reported that she told them to 'f*** off' and refused to cooperate, which led to her arrest.
Following her arrest, Knightingale claimed she was forcibly bundled into a police van and taken to Livingston police station while still unclothed.
She is also known by the name Jason Pilley, as court documents reveal, and identified herself during her trial as 'trans' and 'a female.' During the proceedings, Sheriff Fiona Reith examined the charges against her.
The court found that the Crown had not proven the allegations of homophobic and racially offensive remarks beyond reasonable doubt.
However, the sheriff did conclude that Knightingale was guilty of two specific offenses: intentionally exposing herself to the police officers and obstructing their attempts to gain entry to her property.
In her judgment, Sheriff Reith stated, 'As for charge five (intentional exposure), I accept the evidence of the police officers, including PC Hughes, that Miss Knightingale was told to cover up, and her penis was on display.' She further added that, considering all circumstances, the charge was established but was at the lower end of the severity scale.
Consequently, Knightingale was fined a total of £320 for both offenses.
This incident has sparked considerable discussion within Edinburgh, highlighting issues related to public decency, police conduct, and the treatment of transgender individuals in the community.
The case underscores the complexities faced by law enforcement and the judiciary when dealing with such sensitive and provocative situations.
