JANATH GUL JARDARKHAIL SENTENCED IN LIVERPOOL FOR MULTIPLE SEXUAL ASSAULTS AND DRUG OFFENCES

A 21-year-old man, Janath Gul Jardarkhail, who carried out two separate sexual assaults in Liverpool city centre, was sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison, with an additional five years on license, after attacking women in parks and streets during night hours.

The incidents took place nearly six months apart, with the first assault occurring in Chavasse Park in July 2019, where Jardarkhail ambushed a woman, dragging her into bushes and raping her.

The second attack happened in January of the following year on Wood Street, when he assaulted a woman returning from a night out.

Liverpool Crown Court was told that Jardarkhail exploited his position as a low-level cannabis dealer to stalk vulnerable women in the city centre at night.

The court heard that DNA evidence from both victims matched Jardarkhail’s genetic profile following his arrest for suspicion of supplying cannabis.

In a statement read to the court, the woman assaulted on Wood Street described her ongoing mental health struggles caused by the attack.

Prosecutor Ben Jones explained that she had even resorted to self-harm due to the trauma.

Despite her ordeal, she expressed resilience, stating: "He took away every bit of dignity that I have so I refuse to let him take me away from my kids." Defense lawyer Martine Snowdon acknowledged Jardarkhail’s difficult upbringing, highlighting his lack of proper guidance and support during childhood, as well as a serious head injury that affected his cognitive abilities.

She described him as an immature young man with limited education and moral guidance, suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and depression, based on a psychiatric report.

Judge Stuart Driver, QC, condemned Jardarkhail’s actions, stating: "I am satisfied that you used your occupation of selling cannabis to walk the streets of Liverpool city centre at night, apparently and actually selling cannabis, but keeping your eyes wide open for vulnerable women for you to attack.

There is an element of planning.

You were a sexual predator." Jardarkhail, of County Road, Walton, was found to have preyed on women unable to defend themselves and was deemed a dangerous offender.

He received a 12-year prison sentence covering both rape charges and possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

Additionally, he will be on the sex offenders register for life and is required to pay a statutory surcharge.
