MAN WHO BROKE GIRLFRIEND’S RIB AND STRUCK HER WITH A BATON IS JAILED
A man from Cambridge with a history of domestic abuse has been sentenced to prison after assaulting his girlfriend multiple times.Jamie Willis, aged 31 and residing in Tweedale, was given a 27-month sentence at Cambridge Crown Court on Wednesday, along with a 10-year restraining order to prevent any contact with his former partner.
Authorities stated that it was the woman’s decision to come forward last December that ultimately led to Willis’s conviction.
The abuse began in November 2019 in Christ’s Pieces, where Willis first became verbally aggressive before punching the woman in the face, causing her to fall to the ground.
He then continued the assault by kicking her repeatedly in the upper body.
Her screams for help went unheard due to the early morning hours.
Willis then pulled her up by her coat and claimed he “didn’t hit her that hard,” before walking home in silence.
A week later, the woman was still in severe pain and sought medical attention, discovering she had sustained a broken rib.
Willis expressed remorse, and their relationship temporarily resumed.
However, the situation deteriorated again on December 15.
While at the woman’s home, Willis claimed he was leaving for about thirty minutes, but a dispute ensued when he objected to her plans to visit a family member.
During the argument, he hit her on the back with an extendable baton.
After apologising and insisting he wanted her to stay inside, Willis left, only to return later while she was on the phone with police.
He snatched the phone, knocked out her earring, and was arrested that day.
During police interviews, Willis denied all charges and later pleaded guilty to two counts of actual bodily harm and one of assault by beating.
Detective Constable Marcus Johnson, who led the investigation, commented on Willis’s lack of remorse and emphasised the severity of domestic abuse cases like this.
He noted that the strong evidence and the victim’s determination to seek justice prompted Willis to admit guilt before trial.
The officer expressed gratitude for the victim’s trust and reaffirmed the police’s commitment to combating domestic violence, confirming their focus on protecting victims and bringing perpetrators to justice.
