THAME MAN SENTENCED TO SIX YEARS FOR ONLINE CHILD SEXUAL OFFENCES
Following an investigation by Thames Valley Police, Jamie Standen, aged 34, residing on Roundhead Drive in Thame, has been convicted of serious online child sexual offences. He was sentenced to six years in prison at Oxford Crown Court on July 11, 2024. Standen pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including six counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, two counts of attempting to cause or incite a girl under the age of 13 to engage in penetrative sexual activity, and possession of indecent images of children. The court proceedings also revealed that in October 2021 and November 2022, Standen interacted online with several children he believed to be between 12 and 13 years old. He sent sexually explicit photographs to one child and encouraged others to partake in sexual acts. Unbeknownst to him, he was communicating with undercover police officers. The investigation uncovered a hidden folder on his phone containing indecent images of children. He was arrested on January 31, 2022, and was formally charged on May 25, 2024. Detective Constable Chloe Thompson from Abingdon CID highlighted that Standen showed no remorse, even posting letters to himself and trying to involve a third party in efforts to impede police work. Thompson emphasized that the police's commitment to fighting online child abuse remains steadfast and that this case exemplifies their dedication to protecting children and bringing offenders to justice.
