JAMIE RICHARDSON LIVING ILLEGALLY IN DERBY AFTER SEX OFFENDER BREACHES
Jamie Richardson, a known sex offender from Derby, has been found to have gone completely off the radar of authorities, living under the radar with a new partner and her young child without informing the police of his whereabouts. This breach of legal obligations came to light during a court hearing at Derby Crown Court, revealing that Richardson had been residing secretly with his new partner and her children, avoiding the monitoring and notification requirements imposed on him as a registered sex offender.
According to court reports, Richardson, aged 33, had previously been under supervision following a court order that mandated him to notify authorities of his residence and any changes in his personal circumstances.
Despite this, he failed to disclose his new living arrangements, which included living with a woman in Derby and later moving to Uttoxeter with her and her children.
The authorities discovered his absence from his registered address after visiting what they believed to be his home, only to be told by neighbors that he had not lived there since April.
Further investigation revealed that Richardson had also failed to notify the police about his relationship with a woman who had a 10-year-old child.
This woman contacted the police herself on September 26, expressing concern that Richardson, who was staying at her address for over 26 hours, might be a registered sex offender.
She also disclosed that Richardson had not informed the authorities of his stay at her residence, which was a violation of his legal obligations.
Additionally, Richardson had used electronic devices such as an iPhone and an iPad to communicate with her, including through Snapchat, a platform that does not retain internet history, complicating efforts to track his communications.
During the hearing, Richardson, who was appearing via a video link from HMP Nottingham, pleaded guilty to multiple breaches of his sexual harm prevention order and notification requirements.
His previous conviction, handed down in 2020, involved attempts to engage a child in sexual communication and to cause a child to watch a sexual act, resulting in a 16-month suspended jail sentence for two years.
Prosecutor Dan Scothern explained that Richardson’s failure to notify authorities about his new relationships and living arrangements constituted serious breaches.
He emphasized that Richardson had not only gone missing from his registered address but had also failed to update police about his new partner and her children, as well as the electronic devices he used to communicate with her.
In mitigation, Katie Hodgkinson highlighted that Richardson had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and was caring for his partner, who was in the public gallery and had recently been diagnosed with cancer.
She acknowledged Richardson’s awareness of his mistakes and the gravity of his breaches.
Judge Martin Hurst sentenced Richardson to two years in prison, emphasizing the seriousness of his actions.
The judge stated, “You went off the grid for at least nine months, living with one woman who has a child for a significant period, and you had contact with another woman, who also had children, staying with her for more than 12 hours.” It was also confirmed that the sexual harm prevention order and Richardson’s registration as a sex offender would remain in effect until 2030, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further breaches.
