JAMIE ELLIS CAUGHT IN SHEFFIELD TRYING TO GROOM 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a disturbing case that unfolded in Sheffield, police successfully apprehended Jamie Ellis, a 41-year-old man from Belmont Avenue, Chapel Town, who was actively attempting to groom a young girl he believed to be just 12 years old.The incident came to light in April 2020 when authorities revealed the details of his arrest and subsequent conviction.
According to court proceedings held at Sheffield Crown Court on April 8, Ellis had engaged in a series of conversations with what he thought was a 12-year-old girl, but in reality, the contact was with a police decoy.
Prosecutor Nicola Quinney outlined that the communication began in January 2020 through Whisper, a social media platform known for its anonymity.
Ellis initially claimed to be 27 years old, but the girl, or rather the decoy, disclosed that she was nearly 13.
Despite this, Ellis continued to pursue the contact, which persisted until February 6, 2020.
During the exchanges, the conversations took a highly sexual turn.
Ellis discussed explicit topics, including his private parts, sexual acts, oral sex, and masturbation.
Shockingly, he also sent a graphic image of his genitals to the decoy.
The court heard that Ellis was eager to meet the girl in person, and he arranged a meeting for February 6.
However, law enforcement officers were waiting for him and intervened at the designated location.
When police stopped Ellis, they discovered condoms in his car, indicating his intent to carry out a sexual encounter.
Ellis, who had no previous criminal record, pleaded guilty to three counts of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity and one count of attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming.
Judge Rachael Harrison sentenced Ellis to four years in prison.
Additionally, he was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register indefinitely and was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that will remain in effect for 15 years.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement in Sheffield to combat online grooming and protect vulnerable minors from exploitation.
