JAMIE CHAPMAN SENTENCED FOR MULTIPLE SEX OFFENSES IN PETERHEAD AND BUCKIE
A man identified as Jamie Chapman, aged 28 and hailing from Peterhead, has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison after being convicted of a series of serious sexual offenses committed in Buckie, Moray. The court proceedings revealed that Chapman had engaged in repeated acts of sexual assault against a 15-year-old boy, with the assaults taking place on multiple occasions between the years 2021 and 2022.Chapman was also found guilty of supplying cannabis to minors, specifically children aged between 14 and 17, during 2022. In addition to these charges, he was convicted of carrying out several sexual attacks on a 14-year-old girl, further highlighting the extent of his criminal behavior. The court heard that Chapman consistently denied his involvement in these crimes, maintaining his innocence despite the overwhelming evidence against him.
During the sentencing at the High Court in Dundee, Judge Lord Renucci emphasized the ongoing danger Chapman posed to the community. He stated that Chapman continued to represent a significant risk of re-offending and therefore warranted an extended period of supervision following his release. As part of this extended sentence, Chapman will be monitored for an additional two years after completing his prison term.
In his remarks, Lord Renucci pointed out that the crimes against the 15-year-old victim were not isolated incidents but occurred on multiple occasions. He highlighted that the victims were particularly vulnerable, and Chapman exploited their vulnerabilities by providing them with cannabis, which he used as a means to manipulate and abuse them. The judge made it clear that such predatory behavior was unacceptable and warranted strict punishment.
Furthermore, Chapman was ordered to register as a sex offender and was prohibited from having any contact with his victims, ensuring measures are in place to protect those he harmed from further victimization. The court's decision underscores the seriousness of his offenses and the need for ongoing supervision to prevent any future harm.
