JAMIE BALDWIN OF EVESHAM SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AND ONLINE GROOMING IN WORCESTER

In a case that has shocked the local community of Evesham and the wider Worcestershire area, Jamie Baldwin, a man with a troubling past, was brought before Worcester Crown Court to face serious allegations related to his conduct online and offline. Baldwin, who had previously been convicted of possessing indecent images of children, appeared in court to admit to grooming a young girl and engaging in sexual communication with a minor.

According to court records, Baldwin had established a Facebook page under the false identity of a paedophile hunting team called 'Guardians Of The Innocent.' He claimed to be a medic, a profession he falsely attributed to himself, in an attempt to lend credibility to his facade. Baldwin, who used the alias Jamie Founder, manipulated others into joining his so-called team, which purportedly aimed to catch online sex offenders targeting children. Unbeknownst to his team members, Baldwin was already a convicted sex offender, having served time for possession of indecent images of children.

What made Baldwin’s actions particularly sinister was his use of his position as a supposed paedophile hunter to contact underage girls online. His intent was clear: to engage them in sexual activities. Evidence presented in court revealed that Baldwin made sexual advances towards at least one girl under the age of 16. It was only after this girl came forward that other online hunting groups investigated Baldwin and uncovered his criminal past. These groups then contacted law enforcement authorities, leading to Baldwin’s arrest. Police subsequently retrieved substantial evidence of his online activity, which confirmed his predatory behavior.

Jamie Baldwin faced multiple charges, including five counts of serious offences. These charges encompassed sexual communication with a female child and inciting or engaging a child in sexual activity. The court heard that Baldwin’s actions posed a significant threat to the safety and well-being of minors. Ultimately, Baldwin was sentenced to two years in prison, with a minimum of 18 months to be served before he could be considered for release. Upon release, he will be subject to a three-year period on licence. All sentences for the five charges are to run concurrently.

In addition to his imprisonment, Baldwin was subject to a restraining order that prohibits him from making any contact—direct or indirect—with the victim. Furthermore, he was handed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and was ordered to register as a sex offender for an indefinite period, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities and preventing further harm.

Adding to his troubled history, Baldwin was also involved in a separate incident in September 2011, when he was just 19 years old. During that summer, Baldwin caused chaos in Birmingham city centre by threatening to jump off a multi-storey car park at the Arcadian Centre. His actions led to the closure of nearby roads and a standstill in the area for approximately two and a half hours. Prosecutors described Baldwin’s behavior as a public nuisance, and he was subsequently convicted of this incident.

Police investigations into Baldwin’s past began in 2009 when his computer was seized from his home in Rynall Place, Evesham. At that time, he admitted to downloading 200 indecent images, although most were classified as less serious, and none of the most severe types were found. Baldwin pleaded guilty to the charges related to the Birmingham incident, which resulted in a sentence of one year and a day in youth custody. The 141 days he had already spent in detention were credited towards this sentence.

Judge Patrick Thomas, presiding over the case, emphasized the importance of Baldwin’s rehabilitation, stating that the sentence was intended to help him address his issues. The judge also highlighted the inconvenience caused by Baldwin’s actions in Birmingham, remarking, “You have problems but I don’t think you are stupid.” Baldwin was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for ten years, reflecting the seriousness of his offences and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
