JAMES AND PAUL GREGORY OF ALTRINCHAM SENTENCED FOR HISTORIC CHILD SEX ABUSE CASES

In a significant case that has brought to light disturbing acts of child abuse dating back several decades, two men from Altrincham, James Gregory and Paul Gregory, have been convicted and sentenced for their involvement in historic sexual offences against minors. The trial, held at Manchester Minshull Street, revealed a pattern of disturbing behavior that spanned over many years, involving multiple victims and a series of heinous acts.

James Gregory, aged 52, and Paul Gregory, aged 49, both residents of Milner Avenue in Altrincham, faced justice after a thorough investigation and a subsequent trial. James Gregory was found guilty of three counts of indecent assault on a young boy, one count of indecent assault on a girl, and two counts of gross indecency with a child. The court sentenced him to six years in prison, reflecting the severity of his crimes. Paul Gregory was convicted of four indecent assaults committed against two different boys and received a sentence of two and a half years in prison.

The court proceedings uncovered that James Gregory had a history of abusing a young girl during the 1970s, when she was between five and six years old. His misconduct involved indecently assaulting her during that period. The investigation also revealed that in the late 1970s, James indecently assaulted an eight-year-old boy, with Paul Gregory allegedly abusing the same boy on separate occasions. Additionally, Paul Gregory was found guilty of assaulting a second boy, who was approximately 16 years old at the time of the abuse.

Both men have been ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life, a measure that underscores the gravity of their crimes and the potential risk they pose to the community. The case highlights the long-lasting impact of childhood abuse and the importance of justice for victims who often suffer in silence for years before coming forward.

Detective Constable Nicola Graham, of Trafford’s Child Abuse Investigation Unit, commented on the case, stating, “I am sure both men felt they had got away with their sickening behaviour, but they clearly did not realize the strength their victims would find to finally report them to police. We will always thoroughly investigate reports of abuse, no matter when it happened, and we have a specially trained team of investigators who can provide support at all stages of the process.”

Authorities continue to urge anyone who has been a victim of sexual assault or rape to come forward. Support and assistance are available through Greater Manchester Police, which can be contacted at 0161 872 5050 or in emergencies by dialing 999. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and the ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable individuals from abuse, regardless of how much time has passed since the offences occurred.
