JAMES WATSON EXPOSES HIMSELF AT WHITEHAVEN POOL IN SHOCKING INCIDENT
In a disturbing incident at a swimming facility in Whitehaven, James William Watson, aged 33, was found guilty of publicly exposing his genitals to three young children in the changing room of Copeland Pool. The events unfolded on September 24 of the previous year, when a male member of the public was using the pool with three pre-teen children. As he was preparing to leave and change, he noticed Watson clutching a towel tightly to his chest.Concerned by what he saw, the man approached the lockers but, upon turning around, he was shocked to see Watson with his arms outstretched, having opened the towel, thereby revealing his genitalia. The court was told that Watson was standing in a manner that made it clear to everyone present, including the children, that he was intentionally exposing himself.
Witnesses described Watson as appearing 'angry' during the incident, which prompted the man to report the matter immediately to the pool staff. The complainant provided a detailed and accurate description of Watson, which led to his swift arrest. Despite being taken into custody, Watson denied any wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty to the charge of exposure.
However, after a trial at Carlisle Crown Court, the jury reached a unanimous verdict convicting Watson of the crime. The court heard that Watson had previously been in trouble with the law; in 2014, he received a police caution after being observed naked from an upstairs window, with his body exposed to a woman and her young son.
Following the conviction, Judge James Adkin adjourned the case and granted Watson bail. He is currently required to sign the sex offenders' register as part of the legal proceedings. The judge also indicated that sentencing would take place on June 4, and warned Watson that 'all options' remain open regarding his punishment. The case has sent shockwaves through the Whitehaven community, highlighting ongoing concerns about public decency and safety in local recreational facilities.
