JAMES THORN FROM WELLESBOURNE, WARWICKSHIRE, JAILED OVER CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN WILTSHIRE

In April 2013, a case emerged involving James Thorn, a man whose origins were initially reported as being from Wiltshire. However, subsequent information clarified that Thorn was actually a resident of Wellesbourne, Warwickshire. The incident centered around Thorn’s arrest and subsequent conviction related to the possession of indecent images of children, a crime that drew significant attention due to the nature of the evidence and the circumstances surrounding the discovery.

Thorn, aged 29 at the time, was sentenced to nine months in prison after being found guilty of possessing indecent images of children. The conviction followed a police investigation that uncovered a disturbing collection of illicit material stored on Thorn’s personal devices. On May 16, police executed a search warrant on a caravan located at Shenington airfield, near Banbury. The caravan was registered to Thorn, who was then residing in Wiltshire, although he had been repeatedly instructed by his former friend Scott Taylor to either move the vehicle or clear its contents. Thorn’s failure to comply led to the intervention of Taylor and Thorn’s former business partner, Carl Pinnock, who entered the caravan on May 9.

During their search, Taylor and Pinnock discovered an Acer laptop containing a significant number of illicit files. Pinnock was able to guess the password, which allowed access to the device. The police were subsequently called and seized the laptop, along with a portable hard drive that also contained additional indecent images. The investigation revealed that the files included 505 still photographs and 14 videos depicting child abuse, a discovery that prompted Thorn’s arrest on June 23 of the same year.

Thorn maintained his innocence, claiming that he had no knowledge of the files and suggesting that they must have been placed on his devices by someone else. Despite his denials, the evidence was compelling enough to secure a conviction after a trial that concluded on January 21 of the following year. During the proceedings, Thorn’s defense argued that some of the images had been downloaded as far back as 2006, indicating a long-standing issue.

In court, Nigel Mitchell, representing Thorn, highlighted that the case had been a significant shock to his client, emphasizing that the allegations had been hanging over him for nearly two years. Despite the gravity of the charges, Thorn was described as maintaining a relationship with his girlfriend and holding down a job, suggesting some stability in his personal life amidst the controversy.
